9 November 2007 FR Doc E7-22002 - Docket No. FAA-2007-0171 FAA
FAA proposes to supersede an existing AD by requiring further modification. EASA advised that further work is necessary. The FAA explains:
“This AD results from analysis of wire routing that revealed that route 2S of the fuel electrical circuit, located in the right-hand (RR) wing, does not provide adequate separation of fuel quantity indication wires from carrying 115-volt alternating current (AC).… Improper separation of such wires, in the event of wire damage, could lead to a short circuit and a possible ignition source, which could result in a fire in the airplane.”
Or worse, an explosion. The FAA’s descriptive language reads very much like the scenario that destroyed TWA 800.
Action affects 68 aircraft in U.S. registry. With the work required by both the original AD and this action, the cost is pegged at roughly $10,800 per airplane.
Comments due 10 December. |
